SIP Trunks (BYO carrier without PBX)
Have a SIP trunk from any carrier (Twilio, Telnyx, your local provider) but no Asterisk of your own? Telephony → SIP Trunks connects your trunk to our phone system and sends its calls to your agent. Nothing to run on your side. Trunks come with the plans that include calls.
Setup — one form:
- A name you will recognise, and a short technical name (e.g.
my-carrier). - How your carrier authenticates. With a SIP username and password — enter the server, port, login, password and protocol (UDP/TCP/TLS) from your carrier, and leave «My carrier requires registration» on unless your carrier says it does not use registration. By our IP address — there is no login: many local operators work this way. Enter the server and the addresses your carrier sends calls from (up to eight), and give your carrier our address from the same page so it accepts our calls. Twilio, Telnyx and WhatsApp addresses are not accepted in this mode — connect a Twilio or Telnyx trunk with its SIP username and password.
- Calls arrive as. Leave «The dialled number» unless your carrier sends every call to your registered login; then choose «The registered user» and enter your number on that trunk.
- Save. We check the settings, keep a copy of the current configuration and connect the line — and for a trunk that registers, confirm it registered. If anything fails, the previous configuration comes back automatically.
The password. When you add a trunk, its password is stored encrypted, and this page never shows a password, not even in part. To change it, delete the trunk and add it again.
Your other lines are not touched. Each trunk is kept separately, so adding or deleting one never changes another.
Calls out and transfers. So that the calls your agent places, calls from the dashboard phone and transfers of a caller to a person go through your carrier, put the trunk's name — shown next to it, ending in -endpoint — in Settings → Outbound calls → «Asterisk routing (advanced)» → «PJSIP outbound carrier endpoint».
Next step. Once the trunk is live, add your phone numbers in Telephony → Your numbers so incoming calls reach your account — the number you entered for «The registered user» too. Not registering? See what to do when a trunk does not register.
